Student #4
Coming from a district where her fellow high schoolers feel they do not have adequate mental health support, this student wants to bring better help to schools across NJ.
After helping her lay out a plan to hire more full-time mental health staff, Civic Connections reached out to the office of the student’s local assemblywoman and arranged a meeting with her. While the student felt confident going into the meeting, the assemblywoman brought up rising costs that had not been accounted for during planning. Until further research was done, the idea could not move forward.
Getting policy passed often has complications, and Civic Connections understands the value of patience and perseverance. Civic Connections has helped the student schedule a follow-up meeting with the assemblywoman and begin work on the next iteration of the idea. Civic Connections stands by its students every step of the way.
